Tax Dollars at Work

I took this picture about 600 miles into the desert today. This is why government employees make the big money. This is a great place to hide a submarine. (You'll have to click on it to enlarge the print).

It probably got put there when it was still ocean -- protecting our shores from an invasion of trilobites.

I was a pastor in Alaska when the Base Realignment Commission did its work back in the 90s. One of the things they did was combine their testing facilities into one cost saving unit. As a result, Cold Regions Testing and Jungle Regions Testing got moved to Yuma, Arizona. As a result, the tax payers spent millions of dollars flying personnel and equipment back and forth between Yuma (where it doesn't get 50 below nor do they get 50 inches of rain) to interior Alaska and the Gulf Coast. I think once congress wasn't looking the Army moved the facilities back where they belonged.

I am not sure, but there are radio signals called ULF or ultra low frequency that use antennas burried deep in the earth. These signals are the only radio communication the subs use when submerged. The antennas are miles in length and diameter. This could be part of that system. Love your AFR comments. Tom S
